The Worcester Heat 14U Travel Baseball Team is excited and proud to participate for a second season in the North East Baseball Alliance. 2010 will mark NEBA's second season at the 13U, 14U and 15U divisions. With the original 6 teams returning (Worcester Heat, NE Lightning, NE Ruffnecks, SS Seadogs, USA Mavericks, Dugout Dawgs), the Alliance has expanded to 9 total teams for 2010 - adding Team Connecticut, Connecticut Bombers and ITC Thunder.
In the NEBA, each team within a division plays a three or four game series with opponents. These leagues represent an effort to move beyond the traditional weekend doubleheaders to cultivate rivalries in which each team's depth, talent and competitive edge are measured. In the 13U and 14U divisions, the leagues provide a ready-made schedule for the April and June period and are focused on weekend series.
After completing a stretch of games that included 3 tournaments - the 14U Heat are 13-1 in their last 15 games - with 1 game (the NEBA Championship suspended due to rain). They collected a 3rd place finish in Long Island NY at Baseball Heaven, at the worst 2nd place in the NEBA Championship and they defended their Wood Bat Championship after defeating the CT Bombers 5-2 in the finals. The CT Bombers are the team standing in their way to capture the 2010 NEBA Championship to be played at a later date.
The Heat have been out scoring teams 108 - 25 during their tournament run (15 games), averaging 7.2 runs a game while allowing just 1.6. The squad will shift gears and look towards some AAU competition for the next 16 games before heading to the CT Bombers July 4th Invitational.
